Andrea Burton, a talent acquisition specialist, and Kristen Martin, a senior recruiter from Boise State University, recently made waves at the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR) national conference in Orlando. Their presentation, “Faculty Recruitment: From Feedback to Foundation,” highlighted an innovative approach to recruiting top faculty talent in an increasingly competitive environment.
Innovating Faculty Recruitment
Boise State has long competed with top institutions for the best academic talent, but Burton and Martin’s fresh take on faculty recruitment is changing the game. After months of gathering feedback from academic departments, reviewing campus hiring processes, and collaborating with university stakeholders, the duo disclosed a new recruitment model aimed at streamlining the faculty hiring process.
Jordy LePiane, Boise State’s senior director of talent acquisition, praised their work:
“Andrea and Kristen spent months listening to academic units and analyzing data to create real-world solutions that position us more competitively in the faculty recruiting landscape.”
Collaboration and Data-Driven Solutions
Working closely with Boise State’s Organizational Performance and Workplace Learning graduate students, Burton and Martin developed four key recommendations to improve recruitment. These included:
- Refining the recruitment process for faculty versus staff
- Enhancing communication
- Creating user-friendly resources
The result? An updated recruitment strategy that aligns with Boise State’s mission and a new faculty careers website, which has quickly become one of the university’s most visited HR pages.
A Model for Future Success
With their pioneering presentation, Burton and Martin have set the stage for future recruitment improvements, ensuring that Boise State remains a strong competitor in attracting top faculty talent.
