Apple is once again facing a leadership shakeup in its human resources department. Sjoerd Gehring, Apple’s Vice President overseeing global talent management, recruiting, and administration, is stepping down to join Citadel, a Miami-based investment firm.
Gehring is set to assume the role of Chief People Officer at Citadel in the coming month. His decision marks another significant exit from Apple’s HR team, raising concerns about the department’s stability.
Recent HR Departures Spark Concern
This news comes hot on the heels of the departure of Carol Surface, Apple’s Chief People Officer, who stepped down after just 20 months. Gehring’s exit follows other notable departures within Apple’s HR, including team members from diversity and inclusion, executive recruiting, and college recruiting.
Some employees have cited dysfunction under Surface’s leadership as a contributing factor to the recent HR exits. Gehring’s decision to leave for Citadel is said to be motivated by a desire to be closer to family on the East Coast and his ambition to take on a chief people officer role.
Deirdre O’Brien Steps Back In
Deirdre O’Brien, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Retail, will once again take over HR responsibilities, a role she held prior to Surface’s appointment. O’Brien’s return is expected to restore stability within Apple’s HR team, but questions remain about the long-term impact of these high-profile exits.
