Artificial intelligence is set to revolutionize every corner of human resources, from recruitment to employee experience and HR service delivery. This was the key message delivered by Josh Bersin, a leading HR industry analyst, during his recent talk at the 2024 HR Technology Conference in Las Vegas.
According to Bersin, AI platforms are advancing rapidly. “The power and capabilities of AI platforms are exploding, and they’ll only get smarter,” he said. A new development called agentic AI, AI systems that respond and take action will drive significant changes in how HR systems operate.
The ‘Next Big Thing’ in AI
Agentic AI represents what Bersin calls the “next big thing” in HR. With AI systems soon to be able to interact with each other, managing HR processes will become much more streamlined. Imagine Microsoft Copilot communicating directly with other AI agents like Workday Assistant, helping HR professionals automate complex tasks. This means less time navigating systems and more focus on strategic work.
Transforming Core HR Systems
Even the traditional HR management systems are evolving thanks to AI. Bersin noted that the rise of AI has sparked innovation in what was once considered a stagnant area. Major players like ADP, SAP, and Workday are integrating AI into their core platforms, making HR processes smoother and more efficient.
Bersin pointed out the particularly advanced AI systems, like SAP’s Joule, which is becoming a leading conversational AI system in enterprise resource planning. Companies are also acquiring AI startups to keep up with the fast-paced evolution of HR technology.
The rise of AI has also triggered a wave of acquisitions in the HR tech space. Startups like Beamery and Eightfold are growing rapidly, and industry experts predict they’ll soon be acquired by larger corporations looking to expand their AI capabilities.
